JURA ENA 8 Review – A look at the features offered.

When looking for the ideal coffee maker, there are plenty of aspects to pay attention to. In this review, we will guide you through features that the Jura ENA 8 One Touch Espresso Machine contains. You will get a clearer idea of whether the said feature exceeds expectation, is of a standard form, or could do better than its current performance. The following is the list of this coffee in the cup machine features.

1. Design

One of the things you will notice about the ENA 8 is its compact design. The machine is one of the smallest and thinnest super-automatics in the market. It is perfect for residential purposes, especially if you’re falling short on space. The sleek, modern design with silver and black coating suits every kitchen and blends with the aesthetics. The ENA 9 has even won the IF (International Forum) Design Award for its stylish design and finish.

The Jura ENA 8 bean to cup coffee maker is exceptionally lightweight and weighs around 20lbs. Its size is approximately 17.5″ x 10.7″ x12.7″ (inches), proving its small and convenient size.

2. Brewing

The Jura 15284 coffee machine uses premium brewing techniques to create coffee for your brew. While most coffee machines use drip technology to brew their coffee, this one uses pressure techniques to get a more potent brew. The pressure is usually measured in bars. One bar of pressure is equal to that of the atmosphere at sea level. To brew a decent cup of strong coffee, you need at least 9 bars of pressure. The 15284 espresso maker provides its users with up to 15 bars of pressure. This is more than sufficient for even those looking for an instant wake up call.

Furthermore, the espresso machine has a pre-infuse technology, while competitors use abrupt bursts that may create bitter or sour coffee. The pre-infuse allows for a richer taste. This is because it prepares the grounds at a lower pressure before forcing the bulk of the water. It also has a Thermo block heating system and a pre-brew aroma system. The Aroma Boost feature allows the machine to use additional grounds to increase the richness. The coffee flavor is also more refined due to this unique process.

3. Milk System

The Jura ENA 8 espresso maker varies from other coffee machines to the milk system. Unlike other devices that use a milk container, the milk system in the one-touch espresso machine depends entirely on a siphon hose. This hose or tube is adjustable and connected to a box independent of the machine, and the milk is taken directly from the container. From there, the milk is foamed or steamed according to the option you select.

Many individuals consider this feature a downgrade as it requires an external connection and is often considered a poor substitute that doesn’t give enough consistency. However, the good thing about the milk system is that you don’t need to rely on the internal container and choose one that you like. Furthermore, the system has an automatic rinsing option when you power off the machine. It is also removable so that you can clean it exhaustively from time to time for maintenance.

4. Drink Selection

The Jura ENA 8 aka 15284 super automatic coffee maker offers ten different drink selection, which you can prepare at the touch of a button. When it comes to making various drinks, three things matter the most. They are the grind settings, the amount of water included, and the number of beans per cup. Changing or fluctuating any of these three would help you make one of the six specialty drinks. These ten drinks include ristretto, cappuccino, macchiato, latte macchiato, coffee, espresso, espresso doppio, flat white, a portion of white milk, and hot water.

Now, the hot water is not exactly a beverage. You can use it to prepare a wide range of drinks like tea, green tea, black coffee, or instant food like soups, noodles, etc. Once you own this machine, you do not need to turn on the stove for preparing instant meals. The presence of hot water can be useful for college students or professionals who have an active lifestyle.

Selecting drink from TFT panel

There is even ten strength for coffee options. The intensity depends entirely on the amount of water present in the coffee, making it stronger or diluted. Less water will provide more concentration in the brews and vice versa. The temperature fluctuation of the drink from 176-205 degrees Fahrenheit also helps change the final result of the coffee poured in your cup. When you fluctuate these measures, it helps you get more out of your Jura ENA 8 One Touch Espresso Machine. The use of the drink selection and customization option makes it the ideal coffee maker for multiple individuals with different tastes living under the same roof. You even get three programmable levels for hot water to choose from according to your needs.

5. Height-Adjustable Coffee Spout

The coffee dispenser at the front of the machine or the coffee spigot is telescoping and can adjust to the size of the cup you wish to use. The coffee spout can slide down or up or raise or lower according to the current beverage need or intake size. You can adjust the height of the coffee/ cappuccino/ hot water spout size within the range of 55mm to 138mm. If you cannot find an espresso shot glass or need a bigger size than usual, it adjusts to your needs. The spigot’s telescoping size is anywhere from 3″ to 5″ and the output per shot from 4 to 8 ounces.

6. Integrated Grinder

All super-automatic systems have integrated grinders, which means that you don’t have to invest in a separate external one. The Jura ENA 8 One Touch Espresso Machine differs from other grinders as its grinder is visible and has an outer adjustment dial. This means that if you don’t like your grind’s coarseness, you can always adjust the dial to personalize your brew.

The coffee machine also uses premium conical burrs. A cone-shaped grinder burr ensures that the coffee beans go through professional processing and crushed in every sense of the way. The bean hopper, which contains the coffee beans, measures up to 4.4 ounces per grind. However, due to its compact size, you will have to fill the machine up with beans at smaller intervals. This can be frustrating sometimes. If you are an avid drinker, you will have to keep replacing the empty grinder with more beans.

7. Bypass Doser

Sometimes, coffee beans may not be available in hand, or you may prefer to buy your pre-ground coffee that is supplied by premium brands. If this is the case, Jura ENA 8 One Touch Espresso Machine allows you to use the bypass doser. This lets you insert the pre-ground coffee and leave behind the grinding stage when making your cup of refreshment. It can be extremely convenient when you don’t have the time for grounding or have any pre-ground coffee left.

8. Boiler System

Jura ENA 8 fully automatic espresso maker makes use of only one boiler system. This means that it can perform only one boiling or heating feature at a time. Say you want to multi-task and froth the milk while also brewing the coffee. As the boiler is just one and so is the adjustment dial, there is no way to do both. While this is not a deal-breaker, it does reduce the speediness of the process. However, getting a strong caffeine cup might be worth the wait if you own one of these!

9. Water Benefits

The espresso machine comes with a 37-ounce built-in reservoir water tank. Compared to others, the size of the water tank may be considered small but is enough for a regular coffee drinker. However, if you are used to having 3+ cups of coffee a day, you will find yourself filling the water tank quite often. You will also find an Aquador test strip with the retail box. This helps you test the hardness of water and adjust the machine according to your local water source. A spout to help dispense hot water is available when making espresso. The water hardness plays an essential role while preparing the perfect espresso cup.

10. CLARIS Water Filter

As we mentioned in the previous article on the guide to clean JURA coffee machines, you can even get CLARI’s water filter. This ensures that your device keeps on performing efficiently and free from any depositions. The depositions are adverse for any type of electric appliances and can shorten their life. Thankfully, JURA offers a filter that stays in your tank and does the hard work of keeping unwanted depositions at bay. If you are not using one from the start, you can grab a handful of descaling tablets before installing the filter.

11. Cup Warming Trays

To reduce the coffee machine’s footprint and accommodate its compact size, the ENA 8 espresso machine does not have a cup warming tray. Most super-automatics do not make a perfectly heated cup of fresh coffee, but rather a more lukewarm one. For this reason, you might have to stick the coffee in the microwave once done or find another alternative like a hot plate. This can sometimes become inconvenient, but if you preheat the cup while your coffee brews, it can solve the issue.

12. Controls, Displays, and Alerts

The Jura ENA 8 espresso machine provides ease of use since even before assembly. The machine offers intuitive feedback during set up and has a quick access navigation machine. The programming alerts the user when a maintenance check or a cleaning is due and has features that display the use in tri-color text. The device also makes use of one-click buttons for all its features with unique rotating knobs.

13. Energy-Saving Modes

If you are looking to decrease your carbon footprint and be more environmentally conscious, then Jura ENA 8 espresso maker can help you do exactly that. The espresso machine is programmed to turn off after a set level of inactivity. You are responsible for setting this level, and it can be anywhere between 15 minutes to 9 hours of inactivity. Choose from 3 energy-saving modes.

The normal one makes coffee in a matter of 30 seconds on-demand and goes on standby. The energy-saving mode keeps the machine shut after the preparation of the drink. Lastly, the economy mode reduces energy use but requires the machine to heat up before it starts brewing the coffee. The economy mode, therefore, takes more amount of time to prepare a fresh batch of brew.

14. Cleaning and Maintenance

JURA ENA 8 aka 15284 has one of the most efficient super-automatics when it comes to maintenance. With customized cleaning cycles, you can choose when the machine should clean itself. The customization allows you to choose the time or number of drinks, after which the rinsing process should begin. The descaling program allows efficient usage for those living in areas where the water hardness is high.

The brewing system is also removable for a deep cleanse and easily attached once you clean it. The machine enables prompt, systematic alerts when any part of it requires a cleanse or maintenance. While most of the device is easy to clean and takes care of itself, the siphon requires special attention. The siphon for the milk is a detachable piece which you should every time you brew. This process is quite easy and done in a matter of minutes. When cleaning the siphon, pass hot steam through the tube and thoroughly pressure the milk tube residue.

Comparing it with other JURA models

In this section, we have compared this model of the Jura brand to other coffee machines of the same brand to give you a quick overview. The following comparisons will provide you with a holistic view of how the machine fares against its competitors of the same brand.

[VIDEO] Going through the features

Jura ENA 8 one touch espresso machine vs. Jura E6 Automatic Espresso Machine

While both the coffee machines can hold their premium quality espresso machines, they both have certain features that make them stand out. Both the ENA 8 and the Jura E6 automatic coffee maker have pre-brew aroma systems that make a rich coffee while also having completely automated technology.

comparing with E6

However, if you are looking for variety in making drinks, then this is a better fit for you as the E6 Automatic only allows for making a cup of cappuccino. The one dial system that the ENA 8 has limits the number of processes that the machine can take. On the other hand, the E6 Automatic has two dials and is more personalised in that manner. But this can also be a hassle as the one-touch brews coffee with just a click, whereas you need to select options for milk and coffee for the other individually.

Furthermore, automated cleaning with prompt reminders is the system you will find in both the machines. While the ENA 8 is more compact and lightweight, the Jura E6 Automatic does not limit itself. From the 1.8L reservoir to the grinder, can all brew more coffee than that by the one-touch.

Hence, if you want something that has more range and is versatile, you can opt for this one blindly. If you wish for something more established and can provide a substantial amount of pure coffee, you can opt for the Jura E6 Automatic Espresso Machine.

Jura ENA 8 vs. Jura E8 Super Automatic Coffee maker

ENA 8 vs E8

The ENA 8 and the E8 are premia in their respective machine lines. ENA 9 provides six different beverage options in contrast to twelve options offered by E8. Furthermore, the one-touch system is available in both products. The E8 Automatic proves to be handier with a smart mode and wireless compatible accessories. This means that when it comes to advance technology, the E8 is the superior product.

However, if you are new to coffee makers, the E8’s complicated buttons and large size can be quite daunting. The machine needs a sufficient amount of space compared to the compact design of the One Touch Espresso Machine.

Both the Jura 8 and the Jura E8 automatic espresso maker have similar maintenance setups. They can function to the extent that it is enough for a single household. Although, it is evident that the E8 Automatic Espresso Machine is a luxury choice. This machine is fit for those who know their way around coffee machines.

If you are looking for something that will give you the early morning fix, this one is better suited. An important note to mention is that while the former has a value for money price, the E8 flaunts its luxury with an equally hefty price.

Jura ENA 8 Espresso Machine vs. Jura Impressa C60

When taking a close look at the ENA 8 and Impressa C60, you will see some noticeable differences. For one, the spout of this one has a more significant telescopic range. On the other hand, the Impressa C60 provides range only up to 4.5″. The Impressa C60 weighs 21.1 pounds, which is not as different as the one-touch. However, the latter has a smaller footprint.

You might have noticed that both of them have the same external milk system and conical burr grinders. They are pretty much equal when it comes to using professional technology. The drink selection is slightly higher in the Jura 8 which stands at ten drinks. The Jura Impressa C60 Espresso Machine, on the other hand, stands at four beverages.

While the features of both the coffee machines are quite similar to each other, One Touch Espresso Machine stands out. These include compact and modern design, single dial, one-touch control, and a wide range of drinks.

Like the One Touch Espresso Machine, the Impressa C60 is a machine for entering the coffee madness. The Jura Impressa C60 is one of the most cost-effective devices offered by the Swiss manufacturer.

Final Verdict – Is it worth buying?

The Jura ENA 8 espresso maker is a stellar machine that the swiss manufacturer has released. Its award-winning design, advanced features, and cost-effective price make it an incredibly attractive option.

The machine features an exuberating design that allures both, i.e., coffee connoisseur as well as amateurs. The machines let you invest in a decent coffee cup without venturing out or making a stop on the way to work. Its practicality can only be beaten by its compact, lightweight design that is attractive to those with less kitchen space or who move around a lot. While this machine has many competitors in the market, there is no denying that the espresso machine is versatile enough to fit all standards. 1 thought on “Jura ENA 8 Review 2020 ☕️ – Is it worth buying?”

  1. Hi Arianna, great review, agree with all your comments, and I would buy another Ena 8 in a heartbeat but it does have two tiny design flaws which are actually super irritating, and could easily be fixed with only minor tweaks. First, there is a safety grate for the beans, angled. This is good because you can’t accidentally put, say, a finger in the grinder. And unlike some machines that stop working if you take the lid off the beans while the grinder is in operation (as a safety measure) the Ena doesn’t. But that angled safety grate does not necessarily allow gravity to get sufficient beans. I find you have to manually push the beans into the grater. A steeper incline would solve the problem. The second thing is that if you don’t use/need the milk hose the machine comes with the tiniest tiny little cap–NOT attached to the machine. That’s ludicrous. I’ve dropped it numerous times pulling it out and had to get down on the floor and find it. Whoever came up with the idea that the cap shouldn’t be attached, and hang from the spout when the hose is inserted should be shot.
